Who was Rabbeinu Yonah?
R. Yonah b.Avraham lived in Gerona, Spain in the 1200's (he died in 1263). A relative of the Ramban, he studied under R.Avraham of Montpellier in Provence, and sided with him in his opposition to the Rambam's works. He later changed his mind and vowed to visit the Rambam's grave in Eretz Yisroel to apologize. Meanwhile, he taught for several years in Barcelona, and on the way to Eretz Yisroel he stayed for several more years in Toledo, where he suddenly died without fulfilling his vow.
